A preliminary investigation by Alabama State Troopers indicates that the fatal collision between a Houston County bus and a motorcycle was the fault of the bus driver.

The bus and motorcycle collided on Highway 84 near Ashford Wednesday morning, killing the cyclist identified as 46-year-old Jackie Lavern Hughes.

Hughes, a Gordon resident, was pronounced dead on the scene by Houston County Coroner Robert Byrd.

Alabama State Trooper Kevin Cook said it appears that the bus driver failed to yield the right of way to Hughes, instead pulling into the biker's path.

Trooper Cook said there were nine passengers aboard the bus including two adults and seven children. None of the bus passengers suffered life-threatening injuries.

The crash remains under investigation. Cook said no other information would be released by Troopers while the circumstances of the crash were studied.
