MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

Tom Brokaw, longtime NBC journalist and best-selling author will be in Montgomery today to receive an honorary Air University Doctor of Letters degree during a ceremony at Maxwell AFB.  The ceremony is open to students and staff of Air University and begins at 9:00 a.m. at the base.

Following the ceremony, The Air University Foundation will present its inaugural fundraising luncheon, which will honor Mr. Brokaw.  The luncheon will be held at 11:15 a.m. at the Renaissance Hotel and Spa at the Convention Center.

"The Air University Foundation is a501 (c) (3) not-for-profit with the mission of supporting Air University at Maxwell AFB when government resources are insufficient to provide an extra margin of excellence," said Air University Foundation Executive Director, Colonel Joe Panza, USAF, retired. "In a world filled with complex military and geopolitical challenges, there is nothing more important than a well-educated military officer and enlisted corps. The Foundation is committed to assisting Air University in providing the finest Professional Military Education in the world."

"We are excited and very indebted to Mr. Brokaw for agreeing to be our honored guest. This is a great opportunity for the people of the River Region to spend some time with a true American icon, and at the same time support the Foundation and Air University," said Panza. Mr.Brokaw's books, The Greatest Generation, and The Greatest Generation Speaks, have been perennial best-sellers. His new book, The Time of Our Lives: A Conversation About America: Who We Are, Where We've Been, and Where We Need to Go Now To Recapture the American Dream, will be available for purchase at the luncheon.
