Auburn steps out of conference play with an afternoon game against the Samford Bulldogs in the 98th observance of Homecoming. The game marks the return of former Auburn QB and 1971 Heisman Trophy winner Pat Sullivan. Sullivan has been Samford's head coach since 2006.
AUBURN HEADLINES: Auburn leads the series against Samford with a 25-0-1 record. The teams have not met since 1993. Pat Sullivan will become just the second Heisman Trophy winner to coach against his alma mater. South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier was the first to coach against the school where he won the Heisman as a player when the Gamecocks played Florida in 2005. The game against Samford will mark the 98th observance of Homecoming and the 85th Homecoming game at Auburn. Auburn is 71-8-5 all-time in Homecoming games. Punter Steven Clark is 1st SEC/T-2nd FBS with 27 punts inside the 20-yard line. Clark was named one of the 10 semi-finalists for the Ray Guy Award which recognizes the top punter in the nation. RB Michael Dyer is 2nd SEC/21st FBS averaging 103.7 rushing yards per game. Lemonier needs half a sacks to move into a tie with Donnie Humphrey for 10th in single-season sacks. Humphrey had 9.0 sacks in 1981. Kicker Cody Parkey is 2nd SEC/3rd FBS with 27 touchbacks.
