Iron Bowl, Turkey Day Classic big business for hotels

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

Both Auburn and Alabama's football teams will be staying in downtown Montgomery this weekend. Hotels are going to be packed with Iron Bowl and Turkey Day Classic fans. Hotel rooms are going fast at the Renaissance Hotel.

"Wednesday night we are completely sold out. We've been turning people away for almost two weeks," Renaissance Hotel General Manager Mike Eveleth said.

And the Embassy Suites in downtown Montgomery.

"Friday night and Saturday night, you couldn't wedge another person in without a crow bar," Embassy Suites General Manager Tom Quatrochi said.

237 rooms, most going to the Alabama football team and staff.

"We love Alabama and we're hosting the football team. The War Eagles are right across the street at the Renaissance. We're trying to make sure now one pulls fire alarms to upset one of the teams," Quatrochi said.

"To have both of these teams staying in Montgomery the night before the Iron Bowl is as good as it gets," Quatrochi said.

Auburn's football team checks in on Friday at the Renaissance. The hotel is booked with several ASU classic functions and even has a waiting list for Wednesday.

"We are full and Turkey Day is always a busy one for us," Eveleth said.

A busy day and a big revenue boost for hotels and downtown businesses.

"I would say you are looking at thousands of people. The income generation is significant," Quadtrochi said.

If you need a room Thursday, Friday or Saturday you are in luck at the Renaissance. The manager says there are rooms available so book now.

At Embassy Suites there are still a couple of rooms on Wednesday and Thursday nights.

Hotel managers encourage people to check room availability online.
