PHOENIX (AP) -
Closing arguments in the penalty phase of the Phoenix area's Baseline Killer trial are set for Monday.
It will be the last chance for 47-year-old Mark Goudeau's attorneys to convince jurors to spare him from the death penalty and give him a sentence of life in prison.
Prosecutors are arguing for death, saying that the nine murder victims tied to the Baseline Killer crimes died in an especially cruel way and that Goudeau is a "ravenous wolf" intent on rape and murder.
Two weeks ago, Goudeau stopped his attorneys from presenting jurors with arguments that he deserves a life sentence and instead chose to talk to them himself.
Goudeau told jurors that he's no monster and asked them to follow their hearts when they decide his sentence.
