Ribbon cutting at new Gee's Bend welcome center

GEE'S BEND, AL (WSFA) -

Alabama Governor Robert Bentley joined officials from Wilcox County, the Alabama Tombigbee Regional Council and the Alabama Department of Senior Services for a ribbon-cutting ceremony Monday.

The ceremony was called to dedicate the new Gee's Bend  Ferry Terminal and the new Gee's Bend Senior Center.

The new Gee's Bend Ferry Terminal will also serve as a Welcome Center for tourists visiting the historic Gee's Bend community.

The Senior Center will serve as a nutrition center for seniors as well as a central location for the well-known Quilters of Gee's Bend.

Both buildings are expected to help boost economic growth in Wilcox County.

    The person of interest in the double-murder and bank robbery in Conway on Monday is in custody. Brandon MIchael Council was arrested in Greenville, North Carolina Wednesday, along with two other people, authorities there confirmed.  Brandon Michael Council was wanted for questioning in connection with the murder of two CresCom bank employees during a bank robbery at the CresCom Bank in Conway on Monday afternoon.
