MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - Dawn Ellis knew it by the time she was in high school. She wanted to be a teacher.

After going to Auburn Montgomery she found her passion for the classroom.

"I really enjoy special education," Ellis said. "I like taking smaller groups of kids who learn a little differently, finding what they are passionate about, and helping them improve and build confidence in themselves."

Ms. Ellis teaches 5th grade. She's in her second year at Crump Elementary School in Montgomery.

A student nominated her for the Class Act Award saying Ms. Ellis makes class fun, and that she's his favorite teacher.

She even helps coach his Miracle League baseball team.

For Dawn Ellis, the payoff is simple. "I really enjoy when they get it. It's nice to form a rapport with the students and then see them go above and beyond what they imagined they could do."

She's making good things happen in the classroom.
