CLANTON, AL (WSFA) - Nearly two years after an 18-year-old Chilton County man's body was found, there's some justice coming to his family. One of the suspects has pleaded guilty to murder.
District Attorney Randall Houston's office says Joshua Ready, now 20, pleaded guilty Wednesday in the death of then 18-year-old Steven Dorough.
A second suspect, now 23-year-old Christopher Kroeger, is also charged with Dorough's death. His case is still pending, according to the D.A.'s office.
A witness called police to report a crime December 27, 2009. When authorities arrived at the residence on Chilton Co. Rd. 59, they found a grisly scene. Dorough had been shot, and the suspects had burned his remains to destroy evidence.
During an interview with Dorough's parents a short time after the crime, they told WSFA 12 News their son was full of life, had enlisted in the Army and had dreams of becoming an FBI agent.
With Ready's guilty plea, the state is recommending he get 30 years in prison. His sentencing date is set for December 14.
