AEA picks replacements for Hubbert, Reed

The board of the Alabama Education Association has chosen former state Finance Director Henry Mabry of Montgomery to replace Paul Hubbert as executive secretary of the educators' organization.

The board also voted Thursday to promote one of its attorneys, Greg Graves, to replace Joe Reed as associate executive secretary.

Hubbert and Reed are retiring Dec. 31 after leading the organization since 1969. During that time, they became two of the most powerful political figures in Alabama.

Mabry served as finance director during Gov. Don Siegelman's administration and has been a consultant to AEA since then.

Hubbert said Mabry brings an extensive knowledge of state finances and experience working with the Legislature.
