GREENVILLE, AL (WSFA) - An inmate at the Butler County Jail tasted freedom Thursday, but the sensation lasted mere minutes. Inmate Kevin Boggan was, for a moment, free and then not-so-free.
Boggan, being held on burglary charges, bolted from a "non-security area" at the front of the jail, according to Sheriff Kenny Hardin.
Sheriff Hardin said the inmate was in that area of the jail to speak with an administrator. It was at that moment when Boggan decided to seek emancipation from incarceration.
Boggan went for the door and Sheriff Hardin said a captain and a jail administrator weren't far behind him. The entire ordeal lasted less than 10 minutes.
Freedom will come with a cost, however. Boggan's split-second decision will result in additional charges being added to his criminal background: Escape in the 2nd Degree.
