Governor Riley's five appointees to the state parole board got approved by a state Senate committee on Wednesday. The votes came after a closed-door meeting to discuss the appointees' good name and character.
Approved by the Senate Confirmations Committee were Velinda Weatherly of Forestdale, Lowell Stephen McGill of Atmore, Cliff Walker of Bessemer, Don McGriff of Montrose, and Jennifer Mullins Garrett of Montgomery. Senate Confirmations Committee Chairman E-B McClain says he will ask the Senate to approve the five on Thursday. That is final step that will make their appointments official. Without Senate approval, they will have to leave the board and cannot be reappointed. McClain said he is optimistic about getting approval.
