The man police say shot at two officers during a traffic stop has been booked into jail after spending a week in Huntsville Hospital recovering from wounds he received in the shootout.
Police say 27-year-old Samuel Sirvoy Ward opened fire on two police officers outside the Westside Community Center on Earl Street on December 12th. The officers returned fire and shot Ward. The officers were uninjured.
Ward was taken to Huntsville Hospital and remained under 24 hour surveillance for a week. He was booked into the Metro Jail Tuesday afternoon and charged with two counts of attempted murder.
He was also charged with receiving stolen property, several drug charges and obstructing government operations. Court records show he's being held without bond.
In Ward's booking photo, it appears he is sitting in a wheelchair.
The officers involved in the shooting are still on administrative leave and the shooting is under investigation within the department.
