If your commute includes I-85 in the mornings I'm sure you've noticed men alongside the roadways picking up trash and road debris and thought to yourself "who would want to do that?"

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

It's the holiday season and many of us are focused on family and food, presents and, of course, giving.  We like to give.  It makes us feel good to do something for others.

As you consider the gifts for your loved ones this year, consider making one additional gift to someone you don't even know.

The United Way supports 47 partner agencies in the River Region who provide services to over 130,000 people each year.  You may not know them but these people are real.  They are your neighbors, people that live in our communities.

Without support of people like you, critical services like those provided by the American Red Cross, the Montgomery Area Council on Aging, and the Family Sunshine Center will be diminished, and real people will suffer as a result.

We know it's a tough year.  All of us are feeling squeezed in today's economy, but the needs of others in our community are just too important to neglect.

Please find a way to help.  Your support of the United Way can be the difference for others in our community.

Daniel Hughes - Volunteer Campaign Chair for the River Region United Way
