EVERGREEN, AL (WSFA) -
The Alabama Bureau of Investigation is stepping in to find out why a man allegedly tried to run over a south Alabama police officer.
Investigators say the Evergreen police officer conducted what was a routine traffic stop Wednesday. During the officer's traffic stop the suspect, unidentified, apparently tried to run over the officer.
The suspect struck several other vehicles during the incident. Police fired their weapons on the individual, be he was not hit.
Authorities are not releasing his name at this time, but confirm that he is in custody.
The man is facing three counts of attempted murder.
The ABI is investigating the case as a matter of policy when any officer is involved in a shooting.
