Falkville, AL (WBRC) -
The last time Tammie Weeks saw her home in Vinemont it was in flames. Tuesday was the first time she has seen it since a fire destroyed everything.
"It's kind of tough but it really makes me mad to know that my kids lost everything they own," said Weeks.
On Sunday, Weeks and her three children were spending the early afternoon opening presents at her parent's house just feet from her own home. A neighbor was first to alert the family about the fire.
"When I looked up I could see the flames coming from the fire," said Weeks.
Weeks says it took close to two hours to put the fire out. Unfortunately, this wasn't the first trip to the property for fire fighters. Just two days before her home burned down, a trailer her brother was going to move into right behind her also caught fire.
"Everything my son owned was in that trailer," said Week's mother, Carolyn Cluxton.
Cluxton has an idea how the fires started.
"My husband has his suspicions but we can't prove it. He thinks it's someone he's been into it with," said Cluxton.
Falkville fire officials would not comment about the arson allegations, only saying they have not determined the cause of the fires. One firefighter told Fox6 News that three homes on the property were using an extension cord to share electricity.
Whether it was arson or an unfortunate accident Weeks says the hardest part is seeing her kids have to go through it.
"The five year old you can ask her, where's your home and she'll look at you and say it went up in smoke," said Weeks.
The family doesn't have insurance but they are hoping to soon clear out the property and start rebuilding.
The volunteer fire department does not have the resources for an arson investigation, so they are calling in the state fire marshal to look into that.
