Fmr. banker faces embezzlement charges

The former manager of a Regions Bank branch in east Alabama is accused of embezzling about $129,000 from two customers.

Federal authorities say 36-year-old Brenda K. Smith of Lincoln is charged with stealing $99,916 from one customer and $29,067 from another customer while she was working at the Regions branch in the Talladega County town of Lincoln for two years ending in April 2010.

The indictment charges her with making 11 unauthorized withdrawals from customers' accounts while working at the bank. Smith faces one charge for each of those withdrawals.

Court records weren't immediately available to show whether Smith has hired an attorney, and there's no telephone number listed in her name.
