MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - An early morning car break-in ended Tuesday after the suspect was shot. Now, Montgomery police are investigating the matter.
City spokeswoman Martha Earnhardt said units were sent to a home in the 3100 block of Corwin Drive around 3:45am where they located the car's owner and the alleged thief.
Earnhardt said the homeowner was awakened by an alarm and saw the suspect outside by the vehicle. When the homeowner confronted the suspect, the man ran on foot through the backyard.
The homeowner followed the man, according to authorities, and a fight started. During the scuffle the homeowner sustained injuries to his knee and the suspect was shot in the leg.
Medics treated both at the scene before transporting them to Baptist Medical Center South. None of the injuries are considered life-threatening.
Earnhardt said the homeowner was later released, but the suspect, was admitted for treatment. Charges against him are pending following his release from the hospital.
Both the suspect and the homeowner were armed, according to Earnhardt, but details surrounding who's gun was fired haven't been determined.
