Ala. inmate escapes during litter duty

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

The Alabama Department of Corrections is issuing an Inmate Escape Notice for an escapee from north Alabama.

James Leroy Tyree was serving time at the St. Clair Correctional Facility.

A correctional officer reported Tyree missing from a Dept. of Transportation road squad around 2:15pm Tuesday. Tyree was one of six inmates assigned to the squad picking up litter on Alabama Hwy 144, close to mile marker 14 near Ragland.

Tyree is 5'9" tall, weighs 155 pounds and has blue eyes and blonde hair. He is a parole violator from Jefferson County (Bessemer) serving a 20 year sentence for Burglary III, Theft of Property I x 2, Unlawful Breaking and Entering x 3, and Robbery I, according to the DOC.

Tyree has served more than 12 years with an expiration of sentence date scheduled for August 4, 2019, with a possible parole hearing in May, 2012.

The US Marshals Fugitive Task Force is assisting with locating Tyree.
