Pedestrian killed in Wetumpka ID'ed

WETUMPKA, AL (WSFA) - A pedestrian who was killed Wednesday evening after being struck by an automobile is now identified.

James H. Newman, 77, was walking down Hwy. 231 in front of the Collier Ford location when he was struck by an oncoming vehicle.

The Deatsville man was killed on impact, according to authorities.

The Wetumpka Police Department said the accident happened just before 7:00pm.

Police Chief Celia Dixon said an investigation into the death is underway.

It was not immediately known if alcohol played a role.
