Well-known Tuskegee lawyer Jock Smith has died. He was 63.

Friends say he died Sunday from an apparent heart attack. Smith was a senior partner in a law firm founded by Johnny Cochran called Cochran, Cherry, Givens and Smith.

District Attorney Michael Jackson of Selma says Smith was 1 of the best lawyers he's seen in court and he had a way with juries.

Smith handled many big plaintiff cases and recently represented 2 of the children of Martin Luther King Jr. in a dispute over their mother's personal papers.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
