Jeff Davis HS teacher a Class Act

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - He has a passion for U.S. history and he's hoping to pass it on to the students at Jefferson Davis High School in Montgomery. "I always wanted to be a teacher," said Joshua Stone. "I've always has passion for history, I got my degree in history, and I love seeing their faces when they light up."
He's taught for 6 years and spent the last two years at Jeff Davis. One of his 9th grade students nominated him for our Class Act award. "When Mr. Stone teaches, it's like he's telling a story, or reading a book and for me its easier to learn that way," said 9th grader Michaela Watts. "I get the chance to get in front of the kids and weave a historical narrative, it's like I can put them back in the 1830s," Stone said.
You can tell the kids love his style. "For me it's not as much about conveying the information, as it is building a relationship with the kids." When he learned a student nominated him for the award he said, "it's a job where you work in isolation, its very humbling to be recognized."
Congratulations on a job well done. Mr. Joshua Stone from Jeff Davis HS in Montgomery, this week's Class Act.
