TUSCUMBIA, AL (WAFF) -
Tuscumbia Police Chief Tony Logan will keep his job as he appeals his
guilty DUI verdict.
The city received a letter from Logan's attorney saying Logan is once
again appealing his DUI conviction. This is his second appeal after
being convicted by a Florence city judge and last week by a jury in Etowah
County.
All of this spurred from his original arrest back in December of 2009.
The Tuscumbia City Council met Monday night for the first time since
Logan's conviction last week. Tony Logan attended the meeting, but
his job status was not discussed.
After the meeting, Mayor Bill Shoemaker told WAFF 48 News that he sent
an email to all Tuscumbia City Department heads Monday. That email said Logan
will remain as chief of the Tuscumbia Police Department for now.
Two years after his arrest his case is not over, and his future with the
department is still pending.
"Because of the appeal, it simply just freezes the matter. I've
instructed Chief Logan to continue in his duties through this appeals
process," said Mayor Shoemaker.
Logan is now taking his case to the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals. WAFF
48 Legal Analyst Mark McDaniel told WAFF 48 News there is not a
specific time frame for the court to make a ruling.
