Alabama celebrates 14th National Championship

Posted: Updated:

The Alabama football team commemorated its 14th national championship with a celebration at Bryant-Denny Stadium Saturday afternoon.

Head Football Coach Nick Saban led the Crimson Tide on to the field, where the team was greeted by the cheers of an estimated 32,000 fans on the UA campus.

"This is a special group and I absolutely love this team and what they were able to accomplish," Saban said to the crowd. "I hope everyone appreciates everything they did to win the national championship.

Alabama won the school's 14th national title with a 21-0 victory over the LSU Tigers in the 2012 Allstate BCS National Championship Game on January 9 in New Orleans, La.

The entire Alabama team was recognized for its accomplishments on Saturday with the national championship trophies on display.

UA President Dr. Robert Witt, Director of Athletics Mal Moore and head coach Nick Saban addressed the crowd, along with players Mark Barron, Barrett Jones, Trent Richardson and Dont'a Hightower.

Running back Trent Richardson:

"It's a touching moment just to be around here and see all the fans. It's only the second time I have been back in town since the game, so it was really nice. Everyone came out to support us, just like they did all season."

Linebacker Nico Johnson:

"We're very fortunate. I seriously think we have the best fans in the country. No matter where we go, Alabama fans are always there to support the team. Being a defense player playing in this stadium, it means a lot."

Offensive lineman Barrett Jones:

"Today was awesome, just to come back and share it with the fans. They're a huge part of what we've done. We wouldn't be the program that we are if not for the great fans that we have. We have the best fans in the country and they showed that today, the way they showed up and supported us."
