Storms caused extensive damage in Chilton County early Monday morning.

Although no injuries have been reported yet, numerous trees and power lines are down, roads are blocked with debris, and Alabama Power reports 2,900 without power near Clanton.

State Representative Kurt Wallace estimates a dozen homes with significant damage or destroyed in Maplesville, his hometown.

Damaged areas include:

  • North Clanton near Little John Road
  • Mobile home park at Highways 22 and 37
  • Highways 22 and 191 blocked from Clanton
  • Lomax, north of Clanton
  • Enterprise Community, south of Clanton

Bill Collum, Chilton County EMA Director advises all to stay out of the area.  The EMA will notify once the need for assistance is assessed.

The American Red Cross is sending a feeding vehicle and damage assessment teams to Maplesville and are working with the EMA there to open a shelter.
