GENEVA, Ala. (AP) -
A Florida man has been charged with attempted murder after authorities say he tried to run over an Alabama trooper at a roadside checkpoint.
The Dothan Eagle reports (http://bit.ly/x9W5oG ) that 46-year-old Michael Wayne Griswell remains in the Geneva County jail on $300,000 bond.
He was arrested Wednesday and charged with attempted murder, possession of a controlled substance and attempting to elude law enforcement.
Authorities say when a trooper tried to question Griswell at the checkpoint, he drove away, dragging the trooper with him. Authorities say Griswell then tried to run over the trooper.
He was arrested after leading police on a short chase. Authorities say troopers fired shots during the scuffle but no one was hit.
It was not immediately clear whether Griswell has an attorney.
