CALHOUN CO., AL (WBRC) - -
The man suspected of killing Anniston police officer Justin Sollohub pleaded "not guilty" by reason of mental defect today in court.
Suspect Joshua Russell is charged with capital murder of officer Sollohub from a shooting in August 2011. The shooting occurred during a foot chase while Sollohub was on duty.
Russell did not appear in court today for his arraignment because he is being held in Etowah County, due to the high level of emotion connected to his case and how it affected the Calhoun County law enforcement community.
Russell's lawyers entered the plea on his behalf.
The next court date set for Russell is a motion hearing on March 16.
