BARBOUR CO., AL (WSFA) -

Authorities say they've positively identified a body, discovered in wooded area of Ariton, as that of a missing 27-year-old Clio man.

Barbour County Sheriff LeRoy Upshaw said Thursday that dental records were used by the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences to confirm the remains as those of Willie David Pugh, Jr. An autopsy also confirmed that Pugh was the victim of foul play.

Pugh went missing on January 14, and numerous unsuccessful searches where launched to find him. His vehicle was discovered sitting in a wooded area of Ariton, but Pugh was not located.

The search was called off January 22. Two days later a body was discovered in a wooded area on Sutton Dairy Road.

Investigators suspected foul play early on in the case, and a person of interest developed. Willie Dickerson, a 51-year-old Barbour County resident, was said to be the last person Pugh was seen with alive.

Dickerson's home was destroyed in a fire Wednesday night in what the Fire Marshall's office has deemed a case of arson.
