SYLACAUGA, AL (WBRC) -
Sylacauga Police officers have one person in custody after an early morning double shooting that left one person dead.
Police were called out at 2:30 a.m. to the 100 Block of Wood Street in Sylacauga.
When police arrived on the scene they found two victims. Corley Rogene Watters, 29, of Harpersville, was transported to Coosa Valley Medical Center where he was later prounounced dead. Revish Peoples, 38, of Sylacauga, was air lifted to a Birmingham hospital. His condition is not known.
Police arrested Beniah Bradford, 29, of Goodwater. Bradford is being held at the Talladega County Jail charged with one count of murder and one count of attempted murder.
Witnesses told investigators around 8:00 a.m. that residents from the Trammel Motor Way Community reported a suspicious person in the area knocking on doors claiming to be experiencing car trouble. Police arrived on the scene and found Bradford behind a residence.
"Our investigaton of course is on-going. Everyone at SPD did an outstanding job working through the night and ultimately bringing the suspect in safely. I can't say enough about the consummate professionalism and hardworking attitude of all these guys, from the patrolman that answered the call to the investigator that put on the hand cuffs, to the home owner who reported something suspicious. This was a team effort, and I couldn't be prouder," said Sylcauga Interim Police Chief Chris Carden.
