9 hurt, 4 critically injured in I-65 crash

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

Authorities say there are nine victims, four of whom are in critical condition, following a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 65. The crash involves a supply truck and a Pontiac Grand Am.

Investigators on the scene say eight of the victims were inside the Pontiac sedan and ranged from three to 24 years in age. The ninth victim was the driver of the supply truck.

All four of the critically injured victims were inside the Pontiac are and said to be teenagers.

The crash happened near West Edgemont Avenue on I-65 southbound in Montgomery during the 3:00pm hour.

Traffic in two of the southbound lanes reopened at 4:45pm. The other lane will remain closed for an undetermined amount of time.

Montgomery EMA is urging motorists to avoid the area from Fairview Avenue southward to West Edgemont Avenue if possible.

The cause of the crash is currently under investigation.
