Center Point continues cleanup process

CENTER POINT, AL (WBRC) -

There is still a lot of work left to be done in Center Point for storm debris removal. Residents remain hopeful. "It's still devastating to think our neighborhood being torn apart, like it has been, but there is hope. I see a lot of changes. A lot of people have volunteered to help us," said Center Point resident Allison Wright.

Help is underway in Center Point for other cities in Jefferson County. Trucks are hauling away debris. Birmingham, Graysville, Mountain Brook and others are helping due to an intergovernmental agreement. Center Point Mayor Tom Henderson says, with that help, his city would be even more behind.

"It would be really bad right now. We would be really behind. We have hauled away nearly five thousand cubic yards of debris away," Henderson said.

Later this week, the Center Point City Council will vote to send out proposals for storm removal to help speed up the process. Meanwhile, the Mayor is warning homeowners to be careful about tree removal companies. "Be careful of contractors that come in and tell you they will cut your trees and the city will pick it up. They are supposed to take it off and carry off to the landfill," Henderson said.

Mayor Henderson is asking residents to be patient. "We would like to see it gone. We know it will take some time. We understand the city has to make arrangements to have everything moved," Wright said.
