MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -
The 2012 Regular Session of the Alabama Legislature convenes this week with many an issue to tackle – most notably as mentioned in prior editorials - the $400 million dollar General Fund budget shortfall. Long gone are the federal stimulus dollars used to fill in our state's budget gaps and now the budget must withstand our current economic situation without any propping up.
The Republican majority and Democratic minority will each have their own ideas and agendas as to how they will deal with this and other important issues concerning our state in the upcoming fiscal year. Like job creation, re-visiting the Immigration law, charter schools and legislative redistricting just to name a few.
We encourage all Alabama Legislators to stay focused and non-partisan. We ask that you communicate regularly with us – those that put you in office – so we know where you stand which gives us an opportunity to voice our concern or our support.
We have much at stake and many challenges to overcome. Someone once said "challenges are what make life interesting; overcoming them is what makes life meaningful." With that – we look forward to a meaningful 2012 Legislative Session.
