MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -
Montgomery Fire medics and Police responded to the scene of a fatal pedestrian accident Sunday evening. The pedestrian was struck in the 4400 block of Troy Highway around 8:00pm.
The pedestrian was identified as Kenneth Jefferson, 59, of Cherry Hill Road.
Authorities say it appears Jefferson was attempting to cross Troy Highway when he was struck by an SUV.
The driver of the White 1996 Jeep Cherokee was identified as Bruce Nault, 68, of Prattville. Nault was traveling westbound on Troy Highway at the time of the collision. Investigators say he was not injured.
Jefferson was taken to Baptist South Medical Center for treatment but was pronounced dead a short time after arrival.
This is Montgomery's 7th traffic fatality of 2012. It remains under investigation, but authorities say alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash.
