HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -
Court officials released part of the inquest into the 1986 shooting death of Amy Bishop-Anderson's brother to The Boston Globe late Tuesday.
In the report, which has some information redacted, Bishop-Anderson's parents provide a detailed first-hand account of how Seth Bishop was killed, the newspaper reports. Both parents maintain it was an accident.
According to the Globe, Bishop-Anderson's mother, Judith Bishop, told investigators she and Seth were unloading groceries in the kitchen that day. She said Amy walked in with Seth's rifle and asked him for help unloading it. When he reached for the gun, it fired, even though Amy's hand wasn't on the trigger, the Globe reports.
Bishop-Anderson's father, Samuel Bishop, told investigators he believes fear contributed to the events that day, according to the newspaper article.
In the inquest, Samuel Bishop said his daughter had been traumatized by a burglary a year before in that house. The Globe reports, Samuel told investigators his daughter had been sitting alone in the big Victorian house for a couple hours on the day her brother was shot.
It's not clear if her father believes that's the reason she had the gun.
Court officials opened the inquest after Amy Bishop-Anderson was charged in the 2010 shooting massacre at the University of Alabama-Huntsville. Bishop-Anderson is accused of shooting six people. Three of them died.
