The Montgomery Police Department honoring volunteers in police service or VIPS. These citizens contributed over 15,000 man hours working with police, saving the city almost $300,000.
Thursday night MPD honored volunteers at the VIPS Annual awards banquet. These citizen volunteers assist with patrol and support duties. VIPS assist and escort visitors to police headquarters, obtain copies of police reports for members of the public, help with filing, and assist in logging evidence. They also conduct vacation home checks, check on local businesses to report suspicious activities, participate in neighborhood watch programs and assist with events.
The VIPS Special Achievement award recognizes exceptional service and outstanding achievement. That award went to Harry Bash, Joe Sutton, Veotha Smith, Jerry Hargrave, Betty Daughtry, Jerry Shook and Bob Daughtry.
