Jury to get gambling corruption case Wed.

The jury in Alabama's gambling corruption trial in Montgomery will begin deliberations Wednesday.

U.S. District Judge Myron Thompson laid out a schedule Monday that calls for attorneys' closing arguments to take all day Tuesday and two hours Wednesday morning. Then he will instruct jurors and they will begin deliberations.

Casino owner Milton McGregor and five others are on trial on charges accusing them of buying and selling votes on pro-gambling legislation.

Before deliberations can begin, the judge must rule on requests by defense attorneys to dismiss the 27 charges against the defendants.

Thompson heard arguments from lawyers Monday.

Prosecutors said gambling interests promised campaign contributions to get votes. But defense attorneys said there were no agreements to trade votes.
