Tide golfers take part in Read Across America

The third-ranked Alabama men's golf coach team took time from its busy schedule on Friday morning to participate in the Read Across America program at the University Place Elementary School.

The Crimson Tide's eight-man roster spent time reading Dr. Seuss books to children in kindergarten through second grade at University Place Elementary in Tuscaloosa.

"What a great experience," Alabama sophomore Cory Whitsett said. "It was a lot of fun to take a break from our practice schedule and have the chance to come into these classrooms and read to a great group of children. We came to Alabama to play golf, but more importantly to get and education. It is so important that these kids see that their school work is the key to achieving all of their dreams."

The National Education Association's Read Across America is an annual reading motivation and awareness program that calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading.

Alabama returns to the golf course on Friday, March 9, in Las Vegas, Nev., for the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters at the Southern Highlands Golf Club.
