TROY, AL (WSFA) -

One of the three suspects accused of breaking into a Troy home in the early hours of Monday has died of wounds suffered when the homeowners defended themselves.

Thomas White III had been receiving treatment in the ICU at Troy Regional Medical Center, but authorities confirm he has since died.

Troy police say White kicked in the door of the home on Martha George Hall Drive around 2:00am. Armed with a gun, he demanded the owners give him cash.

The homeowners fought back with a knife, ultimately subduing the man until police could arrive.

Both the suspect and homeowners were taken to the hospital for treatment, but the couple was released later in the day.

Two other suspects remain in custody, charged as accomplices to the crime. Deanna McCleod and Parrish Bean face burglary, robbery and attempted murder charges.

Investigators say the case is ongoing.
