SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -
Numerous fire departments responded to the scene of a structure fire in the northern section of Smith County.
The blaze claimed an abandoned building near the intersection of Highway 271 and Laney Road, north of UTHSCT, around 4 o'clock Monday afternoon.
The Smith County Fire Marshal says the owners of the building were trying to fix it up, and had been burning trash near the building for several weeks now. The high winds picked up embers from the nearby brush fire and ignited the building.
