Ala. has second highest pollen count in U.S. - WSFA.com Montgomery Alabama news.

Ala. has second highest pollen count in U.S.

The pollen count for the greater Birmingham area is currently the second-highest in the entire country, following only Jackson, Miss.

The pollen count for Birmingham is more than 8,000. Allergist Dr. David Tanner says normally at this time in Alabama, the pollen count would be 2,500 to 3,000.

Meteorologists say the higher-than-normal temperatures this time of the year are to blame for the increase in pollen count. Right now pollen from oaks, cedars and juniper trees are making the pollen an especially difficult problem for people with allergies.
