Montgomery church burglarized 3 times in 2 weeks

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

Members and church leaders at Cathedral of Restoration on Mobile Highway say they are fed up with burglars who have hit their church three times in two weeks.

"That is ridiculous it's like you're being targeted, it's very frustrating," Cathedral of Restoration Superintendent Roderick Brewton said.

Brewton says the first incident happened on March 11th when thieves stole a 25 foot trailer.

"Two days later we came out and the bus had been broken into and vandalized," Brewton said.

Brewton says thieves busted this window of the church charter bus, then ripped out the radio and monitor system.

"So for someone to have that much disrespect for church property is unbelievable," Brewton said.

Leaders made yet another discovery while prepping for Sunday school on March 25th.

"Our 30 foot tent trailer has been removed from the property," Brewton said.

That trailer had the church's name on it. Leaders say inside was a large tent that served as an outdoor church, 400 chairs, a platform, podium, generators and a baptism pool.

"It's a lot of stuff and most of it was accumulated over a period of time so it's not something you can easily replace," Cathedral of Restoration Minister John Meeks said.

Last year, leaders say a member's car was stolen along with two church vans, but were later recovered.

"And then to turn around and have this happen all over again, even our pastor's car was left here over night at one point and it was also vandalized," Meeks said.

Leaders say the ministry outreach focuses on bringing church to people. Leaders hit the road in a trailer and go from city to city spreading the gospel. Now burglars have made it nearly impossible to continue those efforts.

"Now we have to start over again," Meeks said.

Brewton says the church across the street had a van stolen a few weeks ago.
