MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

Albert Wilding, a Montgomery man who admitted in 2011 to killing his wife Judie more than a decade earlier, has died.

Alabama Attorney General Luther Strange's office confirmed Wilding's death Monday afternoon to WSFA 12 News. Wilding was 83-years-old. No additional information regarding the man's death was immediately available.

Wilding's wife was the owner of a Vaughn Road pet store called Ani-Mall until her disappearance on April 1, 2000. Mr. Wilding maintained his innocence for years, saying his wife simply walked out on him. He finally pleaded guilty to manslaughter in February of 2011.

Wilding was preparing to shut down his wife's financially-struggling business. She began preparing for a divorce after more than 20 years of marriage.

In his guilty plea, Wilding told the judge he found his wife packing a suitcase and started a struggle with her. Mrs. Wilding was fatally shot during the struggle.

Mrs. Wilding's remains were never recovered. Her husband said he burned her body before dumping her ashes in different locations around Lake Martin.

Wilding's guilty plea deal called for two-and-a-half years in prison followed by five years of probation.
