Two hope write-in will write-off another Moore court

Two Mobile attorneys, including one who sued former Chief Justice Roy Moore over his Ten Commandments monument, are launching write-in campaigns to try to keep Moore from returning to the chief justice's office.

Ginger Poynter and Melinda Maddox said Moore's victory in the Republican primary March 13 prompted them to enter the race.

Maddox is one of the lawyers who successfully sued Moore over the Ten Commandments monument he placed in the state judicial building a decade ago.

Moore refused to obey a federal court order to remove the monument, and a state judicial court kicked him out of office in 2003.

Moore said write-in candidates are not uncommon in Alabama, and he looks forward to the general election in November.

Also running is Democrat Harry Lyon.
