SHELBY COUNTY, AL (WBRC) -

UPDATE: The Shelby County Coroner's Office has identified the drowning victim at Oak Mountain State Park as 18-year-old Lamemphis Fuller of Childersburg.

ORIGINAL STORY:The remains of a teen who drowned at Oak Mountain State Park have been recovered, say officials.

Park Superintendent Mike Jeffreys says the body was located around 7:15 this morning through the use of a side-imaging depth finder.

The 18-year-old black male was in a paddleboat on Sunday around 3:30 p.m. when he stepped out of the boat in shallow water and the boat began to float away. Witnesses tell rescuers the victim tried to swim after it, but went under.

A friend tried to come to his aid, but was unable to reach or recover him. The beach at the park was closed for the rest of the day for the recovery operation.

Authorities have yet to released the victim's identity.
