There are heavy hearts in Jemison as many mourn the loss of 8-year-old Haylee Burks.  Burks was killed when she and two other family members were hit by a car as they were leaving an air show in Northport on Saturday.

Burks' 3-year-old sister remains at Children's Hospital in Birmingham. Authorities believe she may be release Monday.

Burks' mother, 28, remains in the Intensive Care Unit at DCH Hospital in Tuscaloosa. Authorities say she is in stable condition.

The driver, Danny Ray Smith, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence and vehicular homicide.  He has since been released from the Tuscaloosa County Jail on a $106,000 bond.

Burks was a second grader at Jemison Elementary School where Louise Pitts is the principal. Pitts, mother of WSFA 12 News anchor Sally Pitts, said Burks was a sweet child and a good student.

A pastor and school counselors will be on hand Monday to help students cope with Burks' death.

WSFA 12 News' Sally Pitts will be in Chilton County Monday working on coverage of further developments in this story.
