Birmingham Detective Killed in Motorcycle Accident

SHELBY CO.- (WSFA)

Alabama Troopers say a motorcyclist is dead after an accident in the Vandiver Community in North Alabama.

54-year-old man and Odenville resident, Steve Ray Head, was traveling along U.S. Highway 25 when his motorcycle veered from the roadway at the mile marker 162 curve.

Head was ejected from his 2000s model Harley Davidson after striking an embankment around 5:30 PM Sunday.

Officials say Head suffered severe injuries and was pronounced dead before arriving at the hospital.

The accident is still under investigation.

Steve Ray Head was a robbery detective with the Birmingham Police Department.
