VAN ZANDT COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

Authorities called off their search around 2:30 p.m., for an East Texas man after shots were fired during a domestic dispute, says Van Zandt County Sheriff Pat Burnett.

Van Zandt County Deputies actively looked for Jeffrey Scott Shaw in the Ben Wheeler area, focusing mainly on areas between FM 858 and Highway 64 for several hours Monday afternoon.

Sheriff Burnett says Shaw is likely too deep in the woods, past the search perimeter.

"When they've [officers] exhausted an area for three hours, have no dogs, and have the victim safe, they will call it off and tend to other calls that they are getting," Sheriff Burnett said.

Burnett added a warrant has been issued for the Shaw's arrest.

Burnett says Shaw fired a gun in the direction of his spouse during a domestic dispute Monday morning.

A helicopter was assisting in the search, but was called off due to severe weather.

Authorities say Shaw's spouse did not sustain any injuries in the incident.
