Charter Schools Debate

 

A bill to authorize charter schools in Alabama has been scaled down to create just 20 of the schools in the state. That's down from the original plan for 50. But, not all lawmakers are on board with the bill. Our Max Reiss will take a look at why some lawmakers still want to see more changes.

Governor Robert Bentley signed into the law the so-called "Heroes for Hire" bill today. The measure gives tax breaks and incentives to companies that hire returning veterans. The bill passed with overwhelming bipartisan support in the House and Senate.

And, it's believed a tornado with wind gusts of up to 135 miles an hour struck the Dallas suburb of Arlington yesterday. Experts are trying to determine just how many tornadoes hit the region. Meanwhile, we'll tell you how families hit by the tragedy spent the day after the storm.
