Twelve Secret Service agents have been implicated in the scandal. (Source: WikiCommons)WASHINGTON (AP) - Three more Secret Service employees have chosen to resign, bringing the total to six members of the elite group who have been removed after a scandal involving prostitution broke last week.
One Secret Service member investigated has been cleared of serious misconduct, CNN reported.
A White House official says President Barack Obama was been briefed in person by the director of the Secret Service, Mark Sullivan, on the status of the investigation.
The briefing came as a government official told The Associated Press a 12th Secret Service employee has been implicated.
The 12th agent has been placed on administrative leave.
Agents were implicated in the events surrounding the use of at least one Columbian prostitute just before Obama arrived for a summit meeting.
Eleven members of the U.S. military are also being investigated: Six from the Army, two from the Navy, two from the Marine Corp, and one from the Air Force.
The service members were staying in the same hotel as the Secret Service employees who are implicated in the scandal.
