(WMC-TV) – Could the most winningest women's college basketball coach soon have her name on a high profile trophy?
The editorial writers at The Tennessean newspaper out of Nashville say it is only fitting that Pat Summitt's name be on the women's NCAA tournament trophy.
At 59-years-old, Summitt stunned fans when she announced she was diagnosed with early on-set dementia last year. She vowed to stay in the game as long as she could, but now, she says it is time to hand over the reigns.
Her assistant coach, Holly Warlick, is taking over as the Tennessee's women's basketball head coach.
Summitt called it the great joy and honor of her life to have led so many women to success over the years.
Her successor said that she has nothing but respect for Summitt and hopes to do a job that honors the shoes she is trying to fill.
So far, there has been no response from the NCAA about the trophy suggestion.
