COLORADO SPRINGS, CO -

Troy seniors Jamie Hampton and Sarah Shields have been named to the National Strength and Conditioning Association All-America Team, Troy head strength and conditioning coach Richard Shaughnessy announced Tuesday night at Troy's annual graduation banquet.

Hampton, a quarterback for the Trojan football team, battled injuries throughout his entire Troy career, but continued to fight back each year to return to action. The native of Cedar Bluff, Ala., played in 24 games over his five-year career at Troy; he threw 12 touchdown passes and for nearly 1,200 yards.

"Jamie has been a true example of perseverance and he has accredited it all to his spiritual relationship," Shaughnessy said. "He has been a leader for his teammates and a true inspiration for our program."

Shields leads the Troy softball team with a .348 batting average as the Trojans head into the final weeks of their season. The second baseman has struck out just seven times in 141 at-bats this season and just once in Sun Belt Conference play. The native of Schererville, Ind., ranks in the top 10 in the Sun Belt with her 11 doubles this season and is second on the team with 27 RBIs this year.

"Sarah exemplifies perseverance," Shaughnessy said. "After undergoing ACL repair, she pushed herself through her offseason strength and conditioning program. She is a leader on and off the field and in the weight room. Sarah is a positive light to her team; she can inspire a room."

The NSCA All-America program is in its 33rd year and is designed to recognize student-athletes dedication to strength training and conditioning.
